Kevin Spacey The K-PAXian

Well, since I mentioned Kevin Spacey in the last post, I think this time I'll dedicate this post to him. And speaking of him, wowzers! It's been awhile now since I've watched American Beauty, The Usual Suspects, K-PAX and The Life Of David Gale and I still can't get over Spacey. There's something about him as a person more than an actor that makes me watch whatever movie he is in. Of all his brilliant roles, the one in K-PAX was the one that got me hooked, and Jeff Bridges as the psychiatrist and an amazing actor helped fuel this. In K-PAX, he is Prot, a guy who arrives on earth through a beam of light and ends up in a mental hospital claiming to be an extraterrestrial visitor from a distant planet in the constellation Lyra. Eventually he becomes the wonderment of psychiatrist Dr. Mark Powell who sets out to cure him but only to become lost in his own questions. From the beginning of the movie to the bittersweet end, all I could do was just think about how wonderful life really is, not because we can understand it, but because we cannot. There's a beautiful message in this movie and its beauty is in effect of the viewers. Watch it and you'll know why this movie means so much and why it left me in smiles and tears.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I have a beam of light to catch"

Kevin Spacey has been shit after American Beauty.

I thought it was because as the great actor he was, he was just saving himself for the best roles while focusing instead on theatre.

After doing Superman Returns I can conclude that wasn't the case. I hear he is also in Fred Clause so that about almost confirms it.

Unforgivable.

As for Life of David Gale. It has probably one of the worst twist of all times in a movie.

Haha, well him and quite a number of great actors. Tom Hanks is like THE best..aka..Road To Perdition! Haha...and he didn't really shine in The Terminal or in The Da Vinci Code....or how about Robin Williams in What Dreams May Come and Good Will Hunting...he was great...then again..RV and License To Wed...so so. I can go on...Morgan Freeman has his not so good moments...Sean Penn. They're all great actors but in some roles you just don't shine as much. You can't demean him like that just because of the movie being mediocre.

As for Life of David Gale, watch the original version without the censorship. Because three of the most important parts..well at least for me...involve nudity...and don't take that the wrong way, lol. Also it's inspired by real events, or so I've heard.

Go watch K-PAX!!! NOW!! :D

There is no actor who has had all there movies as hits. Hell Al Pacino went through a rough patch all through the 90s.

A great actor is one who shines in any film whether it is a hit or not. Will Ferrel is a great comedian because he made Elf funny. A movie with an extremely weak plot.

Tom Hanks was also really good in the Terminal and The Da Vinci Code. The latter was based on a book so how he portrayed the character was not in his hands but how the author and directors wanted it thus he had very little freedom in shaping it into him. Whether the movies did good is another thing all together.

Robin Williams is a great comedian. Comedy and acting are two completely different things. Just because he was in a serious movie doesn't mean all of his other stuff was bad. RV as weak as it might have been, his comedy was the only thing that outshone in it and as a COMEDIAN he did a pretty damn good job.

Morgan Freeman, never been a fan. The man has just one style of acting which gets old pretty fast.

Kevin Spacey is a character actor and its not that the movies he has done after American Beauty have been neccesarily weak, but he hasn't really acted too great in them. Take Superman for example. His portrayal of Lex Luthor was horrendous, I thought. No idea what he was trying to do exactly. At points it just felt over the top and the whole character felt weak.

As for The Life of David Gale, the ending is CONSIDERED one of the worst ever, not just by me.

Not saying the man isn't a good actor. He is a great actor. A true legend but I really don't know where exactly he's going with his career. Is he holding back and waiting for good roles? Because that doesn't explain why he chose Fred Clause. Or is he just picking up any movie at random and going along with it? Because that explains why he chose Fred Clause.

A few good hits won't have him being hailed a great actor. They will just be called flukes unless he pulls of something good soon.

Hahah...finally you make sense! lol..yeah I guess you're true about the things you said. I was kinda surprised he chose a role in Fred Clause..pretty week..but I still love Spacey! Haha, are you serious?...I thought The Life of David Gale had a good story. Wasn't it partly based on actual events? :s Hey Morgon Freeman is pretty good...I'm sure you've watched The Shawshank Remdemption..right? Haha.
